Brian J.G. Pereira, MD, Receives 2009 David M. Hume Award

LEXINGTON, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– AMAG Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMAG) today announced that Brian J.G. Pereira, MD, President and CEO, has been named the recipient of the 2009 David M. Hume Award. He will accept his award tonight at an awards dinner during the National Kidney Foundation’s annual Spring Clinical Meetings in Nashville, TN.

The David M. Hume Award was created in memory of one of the National Kidney Foundation’s most distinguished members and is the highest honor awarded by the National Kidney Foundation. It is given to a distinguished scientist-clinician in the field of kidney and urologic diseases who exemplifies the ideals of scholarship and humanitarianism.

His two decades of research has resulted in better designed policies in dialysis centers and organ transplantation and a better understanding of the transmission and course of hepatitis C in nephrology. In addition to his position as President and CEO of AMAG Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Dr. Pereira is a nationally recognized expert on kidney disease and nephrology, is the editor of the widely read textbook Chronic Kidney Disease, Dialysis and Transplantation and has authored over 200 scientific papers. He is also a Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine and at the Sackler School of Biomedical Sciences of Tufts University.
